Do you ever notice that more than anything, humans hate change?
We hate anything that off-balances our content, perfectly organized world.
We don’t like learning new things, or meeting new people, and we sure as heck don’t like changing atmospheres.
Why is is that humans fear the unknown so passionately?
These are questions that stir up for me as I contemplate my future with great anxiety.
I knew this time would come. Graduation is near for my Master’s program, and in just a few short months, I’ll be a licensed counselor. I have yet to find a job. I have yet to know where I’ll end up on the map. I have yet to know if I can find a job in the area where my fiancé also works. I have yet to put my thousands of hardworking dollars spent on eduction to good use. I have yet to know if I can balance this blog that I am so passionate about while launching a full-time career.
Even as I’m typing these questions, I can literally feel my stomach drop.
You know feeling when you go down a steep roller coaster, and it feels as if gravity is suffocating your stomach?
Yes. That feeling.
And even though I know that it will all be okay (because it always is!), I can’t help but feel like I’m drowning in anxiety just thinking about what I don’t know.
That’s exactly it.
I just don’t know.
Why do I struggle with uncertainty?
How can I overcome this fear?
If you have thought these questions before, let’s try to hash out the fears together. You are not alone!
It’s important to be mindful of the fact that indeed, we are human.
We are not supposed to always have a grasp on what is to come in our lives.
It’s okay be fearful.
It’s okay to admit that we are unsure.
It’s okay to struggle with change.
The important question is, how are you going to cope?
What are you going to do to take control of these feelings?
When I find myself feeling anxiety, I try to direct my energy elsewhere. I go for a walk. I call my mom. I visit a friend. I read a book. I blog about it. It’s so important to take care of yourself when you’re emotionally drained.
You know what I always say. If you don’t take care of yourself, who will?
Accept that you will NOT always know.
