WHAT’S ON

THE TASTE OF TASMANIA

HEAD TO HOBART ‘S WATERFRONT FROM DEC 28TH – JAN 3RD 2016 TO  EXPERIENCE TASMANIA’S MOST POPULAR & ENDURING SUMMER EVENT.

Timed to coincide with the finish of the epic open-ocean Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, Tassie’s big-ticket culinary event of the year is The Taste of Tasmania. With all eyes on the Apple Isle as the yacht’s sail into the harbour, Hobart’s sparkling waterfront hosts this spectacular food festival that showcases the state’s best produce with tasting tables and food tours.

Tasmania might be small in size but it’s a giant of the Australian food scene.

Generating a huge buzz with local producers, winemakers and restaurateurs, Tasmania’s artisan food and drink producers pull out all stops when it comes to showcasing their wares at The Taste of Tasmania. For five days around New Year’s Eve, foodies and wine connoisseurs from all over the country are drawn to Hobart for what is indisputedly one of Australia’s most popular food festivals. Having clocked up close to 25 years of sensational Tassie food, wine, beer and entertainment, The Taste of Tasmania promises to be better than ever in 2016.

Tasmania might be small in size but it’s a giant of the Australian food scene. The island state shows off its incredible produce and sophisticated culinary outlook at this buzzing waterfront event that attracts 265,000 visits each year. With opening hours of 11am-11pm (on New Year’s Eve it’s open until 1am), it’s possible to drop by to enjoy brunch, lunch, afternoon nibbles, dinner or even a late-night supper.

Take a bite out of Australia’s Apple Isle.

From the freshest seafood and berries to artisan Tasmanian beverages and international dishes with a local flavour, The Taste of Tasmania offers something to suit all tastebuds and budgets. Wander through the aisles, grab a glass of something cold, a plate of something hot and tune-in to some live bands.

A foodie festival combined with a fabulous New Year’s Eve celebration, The Taste of Tasmania also hosts a vibrant ticketed New Year’s Eve party on the city’s waterfront, from which there is no better place to enjoy Hobart’s two spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks displays. The family fireworks happen at 9.30pm and at midnight, the New Year is welcomed in with a second blast of fireworks. Against a backdrop of sailboats and historic sandstone streets, The Taste of Tasmania is perfectly positioned to offer patrons a great view of the fireworks over Sullivans Cove. Grab a ticket for the New Year’s Eve celebrations – they kick off at 7pm – and dance the night away while enjoying even more fabulous Tasmanian food and wine.

Tasmania’s most popular and enduring summer event, The Taste of Tasmania, returns to Hobart’s waterfront from 28th December to 3rd January 2016, and it’s free to enter. Check out the website at thetasteoftasmania.com.au for a full list of stalls.
