Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
I’ve been reflecting on everything I have to be thankful for this year. I still can’t wrap my brain around all of the changes that have occurred in my life as of late. I often feel like I am floating through each day, trying my best to create meaning and embrace change. It hasn’t always been easy, but I am so grateful for the events that have unfolded as of recently in my life.
2017 was a HUGE year for me. In some ways, I still feel like I am catching my breath. It was a year of change; a year of growth. 2017 was incredibly anxiety-provoking at times, and scary as heck; yet beautiful, joyful, exciting.
Here are just a few things I am especially grateful for this year…
A New Beginning //
It still hasn’t hit me that we are married. I have the best husband in the world. He is gentle, sweet, kind, thoughtful, hard-working, and family-oriented. He lifts me up when I am feeling down, and reminds me of how beautiful and worthy I am, which sometimes I need. He is my rock and my best friend. I am thankful for the bond my husband and I share every single day. He has supported me throughout this incredulous season of change, and he has helped me through the dark days when everything seemed impossible to face. It feels wonderful to now call him my husband instead of my fiancé.
A New Love //
Unless you have a dog yourself, you are probably going to roll your eyes at this, but my dog changed my life. I’ve never had a dog before, not even throughout my childhood. So when Trevor approached me over a year ago about taking home a pup, I’ll admit that I was not sold at first. Dog hair on my furniture and in my food? No thanks. But the moment we took our sweet little Shadow home, only then just a 9 pound, 8-week-old golden retriever, I knew I was changed. Since then, our little nugget has grown to be the most beautiful, loyal, fun-loving 70 pound boy who has quite literally become my shadow. We pretty much do everything together. I could try to explain in one paragraph how obsessed I am with my dog, but I don’t think it’s possible, LOL.
A New Purpose //
I started my school counseling career at the end of August, hence why I haven’t been super busy with the blog. It’s been a crazy ride. I was not expecting to start my career until after graduation in December, but I guess things were meant to happen differently. I love my job. It can be incredibly stressful at times, but I have the best colleagues, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Counseling high school students is my passion. I feel an incredulous energy when I am at my high school, and I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to start this journey sooner than I expected to.
A New Lifestyle //
I graduate on December 15th from my Professional Counseling graduate program. This has been a journey for nearly seven years in the making. I have never NOT known what it is like to be a student full-time. As I am approaching this new lifestyle, part of me feels sad that this chapter of ending. I have an incredible support system with my cohort and I am thankful for my classmates challenge me to be the best version of myself. For that, I am thankful. I will miss it when I move onto bigger and better things.

There is so much else to be thankful for, but these are the life-changing events that immediately come to my mind. I’d especially like to thank my family and my in-laws for being such an incredible support system to me this year; I honestly could not make it without them. If you guys are reading this, thanks for bearing with me through this season of change. I am so thankful for your unconditional love and support through pursuing my endeavors and dreams.
2017 was incredible, but I have a feeling 2018 will be even more eventful…. babies, perhaps? 😉 HA, jk, this is just to see if my mom is reading this 😉 But in all sincerity, I think 2018 will be just as crazy as 2017. We are looking at buying land and building a home, and there have been conversations about when we would like to extend our family. Everything is still up in the air, but we are excited for what is to come ahead!
The Importance of Finding Gratitude
Finding gratitude is so important to be able to live an intentional, happy lifestyle. I encourage you to find what makes you happy and write these things down. I promise that not only will it boost your mood, but you’ll find that your worldview is more positive and clear-visioned. Spend about 5 minutes each day reflecting on what you’re grateful for. Set a routine and decide to do it EVERY DAY, whether you pray in the morning, journal at night, or whatever your routine may be. Follow through, and you will see the difference it makes in your life!
Leave me a comment below what you’re thankful for this year!
