KALEIDOSCOPIC OBSESSION

FEAST YOUR EYES ON THE STRIKING AND UNMISTAKABLE WORK OF MY FAVOURITE AUSTRALIAN ARTIST, ANYA BROCK.

With a flock of more technicolour creatures than Noah’s Ark could poke a stick at, meet the Perth born, Bondi-based artist and illustrator who’s fighting a war on boring walls all over the country… Of course I’m talking about the unmistakable, unforgettable, Anya Brock.

She’s actually a bit of an object of obsession to everyone who’s been smacked in the face with the view of a popsicle bright bird, while shopping at Fenton & Fenton. The technicolour art just seems to jump off her canvases. Known for her colour-drenched painted ladies and iconic drippy wildlife, Anya Brock is the queen of the kaleidoscopic colour palette.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH A TECHNICOLOUR ZOO ANIMAL.

It’s actually no surprise I fell madly and deeply in love with a whole kaleidoscopic menagerie, if I’m honest. It is after all, the creative combination of two of my favourite things: bright colours and animals. Full of fierce sultry fashion goddesses, rainbow zebras, wild animals, exotic fish, cheeky budgerigars and bold geometric patterns, hanging around on her website feels like an exotic summer and a fruity cocktail, all rolled into one!

Luckily – with the exception of her street murals which unfortunately aren’t finding their way to your place anytime soon – much of her incredible collection, created with chalk, acrylics, ink and pen, is available online via the official Anya Brock website. Definitely check out the current listings, just try not to fall in love with the whole fluoro flock like I did.

Now running a gallery in Sydney and Perth, and still painting in studios in both cities too, Anya Brock is gaining recognition nationally and internationally. Last year, her favourite zoo creatures found a new home on luxe down-stuffed linen cushions, glossy ceramic coasters and playful tea towels, when Anya made her first foray into homewares. This year, going into fashion, her cool collaboration with Mambo for Myer has produced some of the coolest swimwear of the season!

Officially obsessed.
