Rock Your Hair

I first discovered Rock Your Hair at Cosmoprof last summer. I was impressed by the uniquely shaped product bottles that had hot pink and rhinestone-encrusted packaging.

But I was more impressed with what creator Michael O’Rourke put in my hair the day I met him – Bombshell Big Hair Powder! My short do was falling flat, and he added a little of Bombshell to perk it up. I was amazed at the difference!

After Cosmoprof, I found a couple bottles of it at either Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, and bought them both. I need to make sure I keep it in supply for those days when my hair just needs a boost!

I was happy when Rock Your Hair reached out and offered to send me a variety of products to try out; I’d been so impressed with my Bombshell experience, that I was eager to try the others!

There were a couple products I was so-so about, so I’ll get those out of the way first!

Big Hair Rocks Shampoo and Conditioner

Big Hair Rocks Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate and paraben free, safe for color-treated hair, and recommended for all hair types.

The shampoo and conditioner does the job, but I used a LOT of shampoo in order to get it lathered up in my hair and to  feel like I was cleaning it. The conditioner did a nice job.

I also didn’t care for the smell too much; it smelled like citrus, and I’d rather use products that smell clean and soft and sweet rather than acidic, but that’s just personal olfactory preference!

I don’t think I’d buy the shampoo or conditioner. And I posted about these two first because they were the only products I didn’t totally love.

The shampoo retails for $17 per 10.5 oz bottle, or 2 oz for $7.50 through the Rock Your Hair website.

The conditioner retails for $20 per 10.5 oz bottle, or 2 oz for $7.20 through the Rock Your Hair website (linked to in the first paragraph of the review at the top!).

Bombshell Big Hair Powder

This stuff is a wonder in a bottle.

It looks a bit like dry shampoo, but it kinda melts into your hair and teases it up. It’s talc- and micah-based, and did I say, it’s amazing?

Keep in mind that a little bit of this goes a long way. The first time I used it on my own, I put way too much in my hair and it felt weighed down with product. But using a little bit will really make the difference in giving your hair volume and style – this is one of the neatest products I’ve ever used!

I especially loved it on my shorter hair, but it’s great on my shoulder-length hair, as well.

This retails for $17 for .9 oz. on the Rock Your Hair website. I bought a couple bottles for $7.99 or $8.99 at either Marshall’s or TJ Maxx last year, maybe in late summer or fall.

Miracle Leave-In Conditioner Weightless Detangler

Here’s another win. You spray Miracle on your damp, towel-dried hair before you brush it, and it conditions hair and helps you to comb/brush through without tearing out strands because it’s tangled.

It contains soy, wheat and oat proteins meant to reinforce hair from root to tip, according to the website.

I’ve been using this before I dry my hair, every time I wash it, and my hair feels a bit softer when I use it.

This retails for $20 for 7.5 fl oz through the Rock Your Hair website.

Size Matters Big Volume Root Lift

Size Matters Big Volume Root Lift is another great product. I use it after the Leave-In Conditioner, spraying it at the roots where I especially want lift, like the top of my head.

It’s humidity-resistant, something I look forward to trying out as the weather gets warmer here!

This retails for $20 for 13 oz. on the website.

Spray It Hard Big Volume Hairspray

This became my new Holy Grail hairspray. A little bit of this goes a long way, too. It keeps my look in place, tames my longer side bangs from falling into my face (which drives me nuts) but doesn’t make my hair look crispy. It does feel a bit stiff at first, but it softens up after a while, while still keeping your style in place.

This is $22 for 10 oz. Ouch. My new Holy Grail is a lot more than the less-than $5 I spent for my old Holy Grail. Oh, the price we pay for beauty when we love it…

So here’s how my hair looked after using the shampoo, conditioner, Miracle, Size Matters and Spray It Hard:

You can totally see the volume at my roots in that first picture. It’s very cool. My hair looked like that all day practically. I was super excited.

So if the shampoo and conditioner had a citrus smell, wouldn’t the other products? The truth is, all the products have the same citrus smell. But I just like it least in the shampoo and conditioner. I tried the hairspray and other products with my regular shampoo and conditioner, and I can still smell my shampoo and conditioner over the smell of the other products. So the smell of these products isn’t as overpowering for me, and I love how they all perform.

Like I said, this is personal preference on smell, but I wanted to mention it.

Overall, this is a great, effective volumizing line. Michael means business when he means Big Hair!

Have you ever tried Rock Your Hair? What products would you be most excited to try out?! I’d love to hear your feedback!
