OCC Stained Gloss Lip Tars

The lip trend has been bold and bright – reds and hot pinks. In fall and winter I was drawn to matte lippies, even into spring, but I don’t necessarily want to carry the bold matte lip trend into summer.
I mean, I don’t know about you but in summer, I try to wear less makeup so that less melts off my face!!
Total side note but case-in-point, Wednesday, walking in the New York City humidity, I think my face was a disaster by the time I got to the launch of the product that’s object of today’s review:
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss Lip Tars.
OCC has come up with a way to segue the bold lip trend right into the warmer, sunnier months with six bright, translucent Lip Tars. But don’t mistake “translucent” for “sheer.” These bad boys have a ton of pigmentation, and have such a juicy look about them!
How about some swatches?!
Again, here they all are:
Left to right: Voyeur, Androgyne, New Wave, Jealous, Meta, Rhythm Box. And here they are, swatched left to right in the same order on my wrist:
How hot and bright are these beauties?!
Here’s individual lip swatches!
Androgyne (in flash, in natural light, in an Instagram collage):
Androgyne is a juicy orange. OK. I have to stop using juicy to describe these things but damn it, it fits so well! This orange is like a Popsicle reminds me of being a kid in summer playing outside (remember when kids did that? Played outside? hahaha).
New Wave is neon pink. David Klasfeld, the owner of OCC, told me that while all his new Stained Gloss Lip Tars are hot for summer, THIS is the must-have color for summer, and this is how to translate that bright pink lip trend into the new season!
Jealous is a neon reddish/orange-ish pink. Love this shade, too.
Rhythm Box surprised me. I thought it was going to be a darker, more wine color. But no, it’s fuchsia/raspberry-ish! LOVE.
Meta is the perfect neon red. It’s electric, but not frightening to try. This one might have been my favorite!!!
Voyeur is yellow in the tube, but looks kinda gold on the lips. There were moments where I didn’t think this looked bad on me, and moments (like in my swatch?!) when I thought this made me look so pale. This is going to POP on darker skin tones, and it certainly is an interesting shade.
Overall, I was impressed with the color and formula of these Stained Gloss Lip Tars. As far as colors – they’re so hot! Formula is really cool, so much better than a lip gloss.
Androgyne didn’t seem to wear as well as the rest did on me. It faded quickly, but I think I used too much product. A little of these goes a LONG way.
As they wear, they stain your lips so you still have color hours later. Think stained lips in the late afternoon after applying early morning. While they feel good during the first few hours of wear, they do eventually dry. I don’t reapply after lunch so much as touch up, just to add the glossy effect back onto my lips.
Stained Gloss Lip Tars are available (with the exception of New Wave) on Sephora.com for $18. You get 0.33 oz of product and a small brush. I don’t see them on the OCC site yet!
So what do you think of these Stained Gloss Lip Tars?! Are you excited to try them? Which one piques your interest?!
And stay tuned … check back with my site…I’m hosting a giveaway for five of the six new glosses – post will go up soon!!!!
