I’ve never been a makeup guru, or a beauty blogger for that matter. I’m usually one to pour my heart into my personal style and my hair. However, I’ve been inspired by a few of my favorite beauty bloggers lately (especially my fellow Wisconsite Jasmine from Classy, Sassy, & a Bit Smartassy) to learn more about makeup and proper application techniques.

Girl, Have A Little Pride!

Honestly, I was that girl who did her makeup in three minutes in the dark and who barely knew the difference between foundation and bronzer. Seriously, that is not a lie! But then I started to realize- girl, have a little pride in yourself!

I started to research. Before I ever invested in some nice beauty products, the only things I owned included a tube of liquid foundation, liquid eyeliner, one shade of bronze eye shadow that was literally three years old, mascara, blush, and a tube of $1 lipstick. Seriously, that’s it. I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t even own any proper makeup applicators.  I used to apply eye shadow with my finger!!!

Things HAD to change. I started watching Youtube videos (Jaclyn Hill is my SAVIOR!!) to learn a new foundation technique. What the heck was the difference between bronzer and concealer?! I was determined to start a new beauty routine. I took a trip to Sephora and invested in over $100 of new beauty products. #NoRagrets

I practiced and practiced. I was ASTOUNDED by the wonderful difference these new products made! I was looking for a way to make my eyes pop; one of my favorite features about myself is my blue eyes that I inherited from my daddy and my dark eyebrows from my momma. I was finally earning how to show these features off!!! No more painted on eyebrows or heavy liquid eyeliner on my lower lids. I changed my techniques by learning to apply my foundation more efficiently and smoothly (I used to only use liquid foundation, and that’s it. Now, my routine consists of using a primer, liquid foundation, and powder foundation.) The look is so much smoother if well blended.

Today, I want to show you my favorite new beauty products. I was not endorsed or paid by any of the makeup companies themselves, so this is all my 100% honest opinion.

My Makeup Must-Haves

Large Blush & Brush Make Up Case by Vera Bradley– $52
Do you need some last minute gift ideas for your BFF or family member? I have some ideas for you! Before I get into actual products, I want to show you this GORGEOUS Vera Bradley makeup bag I received! You guys already know how much I love Vera (see my new travel duffel bag!) but this makeup bag could not come at a more perfect time, as we leave for Florida in 2 weeks. Like all of the fun other Vera products, this bag is colorful, fun, and is basically a girl’s best friend! I always feel so empowered when using my Vera makeup case.

Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer by e.l.f – $2

As I noted before, I’ve never used primer EVER in my life before buying this! I read such good things about e.l.f. products so I decided to try it out. The result: Long last-eye shadow….AND NO CREASES!!!! Now, I don’t EVER apply my eye-shadow without using my primer first.

Naked Palatte by Urban Decay– $54

Okay, I can’t even explain to you guys enough how much I adore Urban Decay. I’M SO MAD that I didn’t buy this years ago!! Like seriously- where has this been my entire life?! I was hesitant to make the leap because it’s so pricey but honestly- the investment IS SOOOOO WORTH IT!!! I literally feel like a beauty goddess when I wear this eye-shadow! It lasts all day long (with my e.l.f. primer underneath) and the colors are so eye-popping and shimmery. I’m still perfecting how to apply it but I’m having so much fun with it! I truly believe this palatte would make a great gift for anyone. I can’t wait to buy the Naked Smoky!

Colour Riche Lipcolour by L’Oreal

I’m a huge fan of wearing lipstick. I never used to wear lipstick before this year, but I think it’s such a statement when going out! My favorite shades are the Neutral Brown and the rose pink.

Professional Travel Brush Kit by e.l.f– $5

Once again, e.l.f. does it again. I love these brushes! I never in my life applied foundation via a brush before; I always used my fingers! I feel like once again, I’ve been missing out on something important for years. The large brush is excellent for applying my foundation, and the skinny brushes are great for applying eye-shadow.

These are my top beauty picks! I’m so excited to try out more products now as I am finally getting more educated and taking a step towards not being so “beauty-stupid.” 😉 I would love to do a tutorial soon about how I do my eyes, so stay tuned!

What beauty product can you not live without?! Leave me a comment below! (Seriously…I need all the help I can get!!! hehe.) Oh, and I hope you all have a restful and wonderful holiday season! I won’t be posting any more blog posts until Monday the 28th. It’s important to take a break, spend some time with family, and invest in some self-care. Hope you all do the same!
