Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss

I am obsessed with highly-pigmented lipsticks – and Milani Cosmetics‘ upcoming Lip Intense Liquid Color! – but now and then it’s really nice to change things up and go for a lip gloss.

Another one of Milani’s new 2014 launches is the Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss! There are 14 shades in all: Bare Secret, Mai-Tai, Luminous, Mauve Fetish, Berry Tempting, Ravish Raspberry, Pink Lady, Rose Blush, Sweet Grapefruit, Coral Crush, Nude Touch, Red My Lips, Brownberry and Blackcherry. I have six of them to show you today!

Check them out, no flash:

Here’s the applicator. I love this type of paddle:

Here’s swatches of the six I tried. I’ll give overall thoughts at the end! First, back-of-the-hand swatches. First in flash, then in natural light:

From left to right: Mai-Tai, Coral Crush, Nude Touch, Luminous, Pink Lady, Mauve Fetish.

Mai-Tai is a beautiful sunset orange with golden shimmer. This is my favorite of the lip glosses!

Nude Touch:

Nude Touch is a sheer nude shade with golden shimmer. This would be great for a nice, subtle makeup look, or over a matte/creamy lippie to amp up the shine/color.

Pink Lady:

Pink Lady is a pretty pink cream. It’s a soft pink, I like this one paired with purple/blue eye looks.

Coral Crush:

Coral Crush is a coral cream. This is another pretty hue that I love from this line – a shade that I feel like every lip lover needs in their lip drawer! It would go great with a brown/green/taupe eye look.

Mauve Fetish:

Mauve Fetish is a mauve shimmer. I like this one in that it feels like a natural pink hue for my lips. I’ve got a bonus lip-of-the-day photo from the day I wore this to work there. I only swatched two of these but for some reason I only have two of those type of “the day I wore it” collage photos!

Luminous is my second favorite of these lip glosses! It’s a beautiful pale pink with golden shimmer. I wore this with a very work appropriate, brown and neutral eye look.

Overall, these glosses applied easily with the paddle/doe foot applicator. They have nice, light fragrance that I tried to pinpoint but all I could think was maybe a vanilla scent? I’m absolutely horrible at identifying scents, which is why I’ve only reviewed perfume on this blog maybe once, twice in five years LOL!

Anyway, Milani says these glosses are non-tacky and moisturizing, and I agree that they are moisturizing, and they are not highly tacky. As they wear off they get a little tackier. They last two to three hours before color is fading and the texture is getting tackier. It will also wear off quicker if you drink coffee constantly in the morning like I do! They are like a typical lip gloss to me, because I always expect to reapply my glosses.

I left the gloss on my lips without touching up and was pleased that the moisturized feeling continued for a couple more hours.

Milani says that these are rich color lip glosses, but I wouldn’t say they are highly-pigmented; they offer color but not the intensity of an opaque lip gloss. I LIKE that these are not completely opaque. Of course, I have not tried all of the line, but Mai-Tai and Pink Lady were definitely the closest to highly-pigmented that I tried.

These will retail for $5.49 a piece at CVS, Walmart and Walgreens when they launch in February.

What do you think of these glosses?! Are you excited at the idea of trying a new product?! I can’t wait to go to the display and see the others. I think I could quite possibly end up owning them all (anyone have a cure for being a lippie addict?!)
