IBS & IECSC Day 1 – From the Show Floor!

The first day of the International Beauty Show (IBS) and International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference (IECSC) in New York City (April 14-16, 2013) is in the books!

Both exhibit halls were PACKED with thousands of beauty and spa professionals – it was elbow to elbow, and the music coming from the colorful vendor booths was energizing!

My RSS Feed is linking directly to the IBS New York website, so I’m trying to get some live, day-of coverage posted! So here’s a quick overview of some of the brands I met while walking around, and some random observations from both showroom floors. I’m planning to attend some educational sessions tomorrow, and walk around looking for more cool things. I am also hoping to meet a couple other bloggers!

I was excited to connect with Barielle at this show. They were one of the first brands I worked with when I started blogging nail polish and beauty!

The company has gone through some changes in the last couple years, maybe even the last year, and thankfully, under new leadership/ownership, the brand is producing collections in the Barielle Shades nail lacquer line once again. They are also continuing to produce the awesome nail and foot treatments for which they are known.

The above pic is of their spring collection, Sweet Treats. I’ll be posting a review as soon as I can find a moment to swatch these beauties! Hopefully this week!!

And check out their new Summer Brights collection, launching May 1st:

I also picked up the Carnival Fiesta collection, which the brand said has been popular!

You had me at…duochrome!

Barielle said that if there’s one take-away from the brand, it’s “the premiere line for nail treatments and fashion-forward color.” Right on! They also value bloggers, which is valuable to us as a community.

Beauty & Pin-ups

Beauty & Pin-ups comes to us from Israel – and it basically launched in the last day!!

Owner Priel Maman told me that his line brings the pin-up girl into the 21st century, and the goal of the line is to create healthy and beautiful hair – and help a woman feel like a pin-up.

The packaging is beautiful, and if you get a chance to check out the website, do. It’s an experience!

The products include: Miraculeux Oil (infused with argan oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and antioxidants), Miraculeux Masque (argan oil, shea butter, silk peptides), Miraculeux Shampoo (argan oil, shea butter, vitamin E; safe for color- and keratin-treated hair and is sulfate free), Miraculeux Conditioner (argan oil, antioxidants, shea butter, Pro Vitamin B5, E and jojoba oil, and it’s sulfate and paraben free).

The line will be available to the consumer through salons. I’ll be keeping my eye to see how this brand develops!

Sarah Potempa

I have been hearing a lot about Sarah Potempa lately, so I was pleased to come across their fun, tropical escape booth!

Sarah Potempa is a celebrity hair stylist, and she created a line of flat irons, including the product making a splash right -the Beachwaver, She also The Wrap Up and The Half Up, which are top knot – and tiny top knot! – tools. The line also has brushes and Blowout Attachments for the flat irons.

I let stylist Gregory make me over with one of the brand’s flat irons, which had one of the Blowout Attachments on it!

The Beachwaver in action:

Some of the products!

The flat iron that made my hair BOUNCE:

The Wrap Ups and Half Wraps (the brown one is hard to see against the dark background)!

My hair suddenly had bounce to it – that’s me above in my contest photo. The brand is offering a contest at its booth – take a picture in the booth and tag it on Instagram for a chance to win the entire Sarah Potempa line. YES PLEASE!

Here’s a look at the contest poster:

If you look closely at the photo you’ll see my home slice, Carly from Lacquered Lover!! We took a quick photo before I moved on to the next booth!

It’s a horribly blurry pic but you get the picture, haha.

Migi Nail Art

I have heard lots about Migi Nail Art pens, so I stopped by to check these goodies out.

The pen tip is thin, and the polish flows from it in a controlled way:

I didn’t pick any up – YET.

Motives for La La

Motives for La La is an extension of the award-winning Motives by Loren Ridinger cosmetics brand. The line includes mineral-based products, including lipsticks, lip shines, eye shadows, blushes, foundations, mascaras and liners that combine runway and everyday styles.

The line looked very vibrant, and a sales rep told me the colors are really pigmented!

Morgan Taylor

Morgan Taylor is the new nail lacquer line from the makers of Gelish! It’s debuting in May, at Cosmoprof stores. So unfortunately, it’s not going to be readily available to the everyday consumer. But the color selection looked amazing, and the bottles luxe. I could not help but to pick some of these beauties up, not knowing when I might see them again as a consumer!

I’ll have a review to come in a separate post! These are six for $20 at the show!

Dermelect made a splash last year when they launched their peptide-infused nail polish line. They were at IECSC with some of their new nail goodies!

In my review of two of the polishes last year, I really loved the long-wear of the formula. I test-drove my Dermelect mani for four days with only one minor chip. That’s amazing! (Also amazing that I didn’t want to take the polish off after four days – I’m a sucker for blue!) I did feel like I needed to wear the polish consistently for the positive effect the peptides might have on my nails, to help them stop peeling and get stronger. Four days was not enough time to make a difference, to be honest. And while the color selection seemed dupable at the time, they are beautiful picks, and the formula is really awesome. I’m excited to see where this line is going, and how far it’s come since it launched!

Speaking of where it’s going…Dermelect is launching a new collection, in collaboration with Karie Frost from Fear No Beauty:

These are four beautiful polishes. I picked up Buzz-Worthy, the yellow!

Review to come!

The Lano Company

I was drawn into The Lano Company Pure & Glam Cosmetics booth because I saw lippies. Lots and lots of lippies!

I won’t tell you TOO much about the company, because I picked up some of the lippies and a bottle of Hydrating Body Creme, but the brand started by Miranda Coggins out of a need for something to cure her cracked, dry lips. While breastfeeding her daughter, she started using lanolin and it helped heal her lips; she then created several stove-top variations of lanolin-based lip products mixing medical-grade lanolin with oils, and The Lano Company eventually came to be.

Under The Lano Company is Pure Cosmetics and Glam Cosmetics. The Pure Cosmetics best-selling product, and lippie, is Pure Illumination Light Up Lip Gloss:

It comes in 14 shades.

There’s also Forbidden Fruit Lip Stain:

and Pure Lip Balm:

Oh! And Voluptuous Lip Plumper:

It is also light-up, and comes with a mirror.

The line also has Hydrating Body Creme:

And Anti-Aging Creme:

Glam Cosmetics has Lip Gloss:

And this has just launched!

As I mentioned, review to come but when I sampled one of the Pure Illuminating glosses, it just melted into my lips and felt great.

Observations from the show floor

I’ll end my post with just a few observations around the show floor of IBS and IECSC! Like this pretty picture of Rock Your Hair’s products in a pyramid – I love the pink and rhinestone packaging!

And this hair style that was going on at the Alter Ego booth:

And the swarm of people at the Essie booth:

And the treatments happening at the Repechage booth at IECSC:

Phew! So there you go! Day one. I hope you enjoyed this post! There was so much more I could have shared but I think when you get to more than 30 photos in a post…well, a girl’s gotta know when to say stop! But don’t worry. I’ll have more coming to you soon!
