Anorexia, or self-starvation, is a disease and it can be fatal if left untreated. Recognition of its symptoms can be the first step
toward saving yourself or someone you love from this dangerous disease.
The following is a list of the observable symptoms:
•Refusal to maintain body weight
•Fear of gaining weight
•Talks about “feeling fat”
•Difficulty with eating full meals
•Rigidity with what they will eat
•An obsessive preoccupation with body size
•Over-exercising
•Intense dissatisfaction with physical appearance
•Personality change from outgoing to withdrawn
•Limit food intake to “arrow selection of low-Cal foods
•Hoarding, concealing, crumbling or throwing away food
•Menstrual difficulties
Behavioral Characteristics.
Anorexic patients see their restricted caloric intake as a very brave and arduous thing to do. They tend to prize challenges over
comfort. By contrast, bulimic patients view their behaviors as shameful and disgusting. In order to recover, patients need help
learning to understand the connection between their beliefs about themselves and their eating disorder behaviors. They often
view themselves with such hatred that they feel deserving of the painful eating disorder behavior. They need to see that their
eating disordered behavior is not an achievement, hut avoidance of true life challenges; not distinctive, hut simply stereotypic.
They need to realize their behavior does not clarify their life, but confuses it; and they need to see that the disorder does not
serve higher goals, but actually blocks the realization of those goals. The individual suffering from destructive eating disorder
behavior must begin to challenge a negative mindset and learn to create and allow positive feelings and thoughts about
themselves.
Anorexia Nervosa
Bingeing and Food Control Excessive dieting, food control, and fasting. Collects recipes, and likes to cook/bake, but sometimes
refuses to eat with family. Tension at mealtime, Fear of food; avoidance of consumption.
Purging Compulsive exercising. Fasting
Eating Behavior Food ritual; calorie counting, rigid rules and schedules.
Sleeping Behavior Insomnia and early morning awakening.
Clothing and Dressing Rituals Frequent weighing, layering of clothes.
Social Behavior Social withdrawal, physically and emotionally. Focus on job and or school work.
Abusive Behavior Slow suicidal progression. Self hatred and feeling of unworthiness
Emotional and Cognitive Characteristics
Individuals suffering from eating disorders have restricted emotions and often cannot identify their feelings. What they are
aware of is extremely negative thoughts related to their body – an effective diversion from their emotional turmoil and pain.
Their thoughts are obsessively locked onto the Irrelevant and their feelings are avoided and hidden, even from themselves.
Anorexia Nervosa
Body Image Problems Intense fear of becoming fat. Distorted body image.
Perfectionist Behavior Perfectionist: thinnest, smartest, neatest. Dichotomous thinking: all or nothing, black or white.
Self-Esteem Depression and low sense of self-worth.
Sexuality Decreased interest in sex.
Social Behavior Self-centered and non-social, isolation from others, irritable.
Cognitive Symptoms Difficulty thinking clearly, potential severe cognitive deficits due to malnourishment.

Anorexia Linked To Pleasure-Regulating Brain Chemical
Women who suffer from anorexia have increased chemical activity in a part of the brain that controls reward and
reinforcement, something that may explain why they are driven to lose weight but don’t get any pleasure from it, according to a
new study. Researchers used brain-imaging technology on 10 women who had recovered from anorexia and 12 healthy
women. In the anorexic women, they found overactivity by dopamine receptors in a part of the brain known as the basal ganglia.
Dopamine is a brain chemical that is associated with regulating pleasure. “The take-home message is dopamine in this area
may be very important in how we respond to stimuli, how we view positive and negative reinforcement,” said Dr. Walter Kaye, a
psychiatry professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and one of the researchers involved in the study. Dr. Guido
Frank, a child psychiatry fellow at the University of California at San Diego and also a leader of the study, said the hope is that
the research can lead to the development of drugs to treat anorexia. “It’s very, very hard to treat. They recognize it’s wrong, but
they still don’t eat,” Frank said. The research was reported this month online in the journal Biological Psychiatry. About 1
percent of American women suffer from anorexia, a disease than can also affect men. It has the highest death rate of any
psychiatric illness, Kaye said. Women suffering from anorexia have obsessional personalities, avoid harm and prefer routine,
said Dr. Douglas Bunnell, past president of the National Eating Disorders Association and clinical director of the Renfrew Center
of Connecticut. These women tend to resist therapy and have a distorted perception of themselves, he said. Although only a
small number of women get anorexia in its purest form, there are many more people who suffer from some form of an eating
disorder, Bunnell said. Making the connection between anorexia and what’s happening in the brain is important for
understanding and treating eating disorders, he said.
“There’s still considerable stigma attached to these disorders, particularly for families. People think it reflects something you
did as a parent,” Bunnell said.
Dr. Craig Johnson, director of the eating disorders program at Laureate Psychiatric Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., said anorexia was
historically viewed as a disease brought on by its victims or just a diet gone bad. “Up until this point we have been left with more
sociocultural explanations for the illness and regretfully that has resulted in some levels of minimization, if not glamorization, of
the illnesses,” Johnson said. Though the ultimate goal from the latest study would be to develop treatments for anorexia, the
work may also provide data important in anorexia prevention and identifying people at risk of developing the disease, Johnson
said. Frank said researchers still don’t know what is causing the dopamine receptor to be overactive, but more research may
provide an answer.
Behavioral Characteristics.
Bulimia Nervosa
Bingeing and Food Control Eating, in a discrete period of time (e.g. within any 2 hour period), an amount of food that is definitely
larger than most people would eat during a similar period of time and under similar circumstances. Fear of inability to stop
eating voluntarily (bingeing), a feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating.
Purging Compulsive exercising. Vomiting, laxative, diuretic, or diet pill abuse; or use of other emetics ( syrup of ipecac).
Eating Behavior Secretive food foraging and hoarding, especially at night. Shoplifting and or petty stealing of money to buy binge
food.
Sleeping Behavior Various sleep disturbances
Clothing and Dressing Rituals Other obsessive-compulsive patterns, such as trying on clothes five times a day.
Social Behavior Social irregularities, alternating withdrawal with erratic need for social contact and approval. Chaotic
relationships and interaction.
Abusive Behavior Drug and/or alcohol abuse. Suicidal gestures or attempts. Self-hatred and self-mutilation. Feelings of self-
disgust.
Bulimia Nervosa
Body Image Problems Preoccupation with appearance and “image”.
Perfectionist Behavior Perfectionist: high performance and achievement expectations. Perfectionist inside, but sometimes
chaotic outside. Facade of normalcy, seemingly “got it together”.
Self-Esteem Low self-esteem: self-loathing, self disgust, and depression.
Sexuality May be promiscuous or confused about sexuality, a mask for a desire to he accepted and respected.
Social Behavior Constant feeling of being out of control; vacillates between isolation and extreme need for external validation.
Cognitive Symptoms Inability to accurately identify and express feelings. Out of touch with one’s feelings, (e.g. anger, affection,
humor). Thoughts obsessive and focused on the eating disorder cycle.
Adapted from Mary Pabst, MSW, Maryland Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia (MANA) from Panhellenic Task Force
Bulimia not always about looking thin
Freshman Jane Felton said she would purge to make herself feel better in comparison to other women, who made her feel
insufficient.
“I always thought I was chubby – chubbier than the rest of the girls in my class,” Felton said. “Most of the time I wouldn’t eat,
unless I was stressed out or I was really hungry. In those situations, I would just eat a lot of junk food, because that made me
feel sick quicker. Then I would run to the bathroom, stick my finger in my throat and throw it all up. I wanted to be pretty,” she
said.
According to Dr. Donald McAlpine, a psychiatrist and the director of the eating disorders services at the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minn., bulimia, also referred to as bulimia nervosa, is a psychological eating disorder that involves repeated
episodes of overeating. This is followed by inappropriate ways of trying to rid the body of the food before weight gain occurs, he
said.
In most cases, the disorder is not solely about being thin. It can also become a way to “gain total control of some aspect of their
life,” Judy Blackstone, a UW-Eau Claire counselor said.
According to the National Eating Disorder Association, overwhelming lifestyles full of never-ending homework, significant other
pressures, difficult family relationships and additional stressing aspects are common causes for self-induced purging.
“None of the eating disorders are about food,” Blackstone said. “They’re about the way we feel about ourselves.”
Cases of bulimia may start in post-adolescence due to unattainable standards of American society and continues all
throughout college, she said.

Caffeine Supplements
Today’s urban warriors are much the same. Ginseng, caffeine and Eastern medicine are still being utilized.
Now as it was then, you are no where without the basics namely sleep, smart eating and exercise. First aim for at the minimum
6hours of sleep a night, for some a brief nap may lead to greater alertness and productivity.
Pack in energy-promoting foods. The definition of energy is calories so make them count. Veggies provide fiber, vitamins and
nutrients. Nutrition bars are a great source as well …
Caffeine is America’s most popular drug some 85% of Americans drink coffee or some type of caffeinated product. Americans
usually are not the healthiest of the planets people there are better choices to make. South Central America they use a product
called Yerba Mate and Guarana. West Africa the caffeine choice is kola nut and leaf.
Caffeine works by stimulating the nervous system to speed up the heart rate, raise blood pressure and rev up the metabolism
(helping the body lose weight.) It also heightens alertness and concentration…
The facts about “Carb” depleting You cannot completely delete “carbs” from your life. You need them to keep energy and
focused. Their are many diets and products on the market today that can confuse anyone. Even someone who actually knows!
MY SKINNY:
I measure myself everyday to see where I am at. I weigh myself everyday. I read all the diet information I can get my hands on
and I check my body fat .
I concentrate on my thinspiration and keep motivated. I stand on my head for ten minutes a day and do 50 push ups and 60 sit
ups everyday without fail!!
This is something not proven but does seem to work for all who try it. I wear magnetic rings on different fingers for different
results. This is something that works for me. I wear to magnetic rings on both of my pinky fingers when I sleep and I do have a
magnetic mattress pad this is supposed to prevent all types of illness and eliminate swelling, not to mention keep you looking
younger.
I keep a food journal, this is a proven weight management tool everyone should try.
I exercise everyday.I have a part time job as a “floater” in a gym. A “floater” is someone who just comes in to teach and leaves.
It is great because I work out for free, and I have to because it is my job. I learned that if you gain muscle you lose more weight
because your body continues to burn more fat. I sleep at least 6 hours a night and drink plenty of water. To keep my skin healthy
at bedtime I massage pure almond oil into the areas I want firmer I also use some moisturizing products to really enhance the
skin, and I take one aloe vera capsule two times a day to avoid looking older or you can drink it for quicker results… Aloe juice.
I take a Cayenne supplement to boost my metabolism.I take a multi-vitamin and I drink a pro-biotic to avoid any yeast. Yeast can
make you stop losing weight even in starvation mode.
When you don’t eat very much your metabolism can slow down and you stop losing weight. Because heavy spices bother my
stomach I take a supplement. It is preferable to actually eat the spices. I use apple cider vinager on my salads and in a tincture
to help better my digestion and quicken my weight loss.
I suggest that everyone who wants to lose weight and look great, do some of the same. Try some of the diets on my site and
recipes. Follow the tips. Stay focused!!

HYDROX PRODUCTS AND WHY THEY WORK:
These super diet pills make weight come off fast. They create a thermogenasis effect in the body causing it to burn fat faster by
using the bodies heat. This also causes the body to remove excess water from the body. Most of these products I have tried
and lost weight but not as much as I had heard I could… so I investigated the situation and found the right mixture of all of the
extracts and have started my own product line.

As you may know, I’m starting a PROTHINSPO CLEANSE I do it 4x a year… To
prepare, I drink lemon water first thing in the morning to kick start my
digestive system. I do this everyday but really drink more before a cleanse…
The water added to the lemon juice should be lukewarm, or as hot as you can
tolerate. I decided to tell you why this is recommended and after you read
this you might start thinking about making lemon water a regular habit.
Lemon is a strong antibacterial, antiviral, immune booster, digestive aid and
liver cleanser. It is a citrus fruit rich in vitamin C, it also contains vitamin B,
riboflavin and minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium as well as
proteins and carbohydrates. Generally, lemon is consumed in the form of
juice or lemon water. If you are not used to drinking plain water, lemon water
is an excellent alternative, it adds flavour to your drink and in the meantime
provides enormous health benefits.
Relieve digestion problems like bloating, heartburn, and constipation. With
the aid of lemon water, the bowels eliminate waste more efficiently. It also
helps to digest your foods and dissolve gallstones by helping your liver
produces more bile – a fluid secreted by liver and stored in the gallbladder,
to assist in the digestion of fats.
2.Relieve fever, cold or flu. Add juice of 1 lemon to a cup of hot water with
honey and drink it. You can drink it for every 2 hours until the fever or chills
subsides.
3.Help in removing blackhead, acne, and make your skin more radiant. This is
due to the vitamin C in lemon which can rejuvenate the skin from within. Its
alkaline nature kills some type of bacteria known to cause acne. To remove
acne, apply fresh lemon juice on acne part and leave it overnight. Rinse it on
the following morning.
4.Natural remedy for sore throat. Lemon has an antibacterial property. Thus, it
is an excellent fruit that aids in fighting problems related to infection. For
sore throat, add the juice of 1 lemon and 1 teaspoon (5ml) of sea salt to 1 cup
(250ml) of lukewarm water. Gargle 3 times a day to diminish the burning
sensation.
5.Help in respiratory problems and breathing problems such as asthma.
6.Combat rheumatism and arthritis. Lemon has a powerful alkaline effect in
the body, and therefore a natural agent against excess acid, which is in part
responsible for rheumatism. Drink lemon in lukewarm water 3 times a day and
if you experience severe pain, add the juice of 2 lemons 3 times a day.
7.Help to control high blood pressure. Due to the high potassium content in
lemon, lemon water helps in controlling high blood pressure, dizziness,
nausea.
8.Relax anxiety, combat fatigue. Lemon has calming effects.
9.Good for weight loss. Add lemon to lukewarm water boosts metabolism.
10.Assist in toothache by getting rid of the pain. The massage of lemon juice
on gums can stop gum bleeding.
11.Freshen up your breath after consuming certain alcohol, cigarettes or
spices, or that is caused by insufficient salivation.
12.Act as blood purifier. Drinking lemon water can help in the diseases like
cholera or malaria.
Hot lemon water:
1. Boosts your immune system: Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great
for fighting colds. They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and
nerve function. Potassium also helps control blood pressure.
2. Balances pH: Drink lemon water everyday and you’ll reduce your body’s
overall acidity. Lemon is one of the most alkaline foods around. Yes, lemon
has citric acid but it does not create acidity in the body once metabolized.
3. Helps with weight loss: Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight
hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more
alkaline diet (see #2) lose weight faster.
4. Aids digestion: Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials. It
encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that required for
digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and constipation.
5. Is a diuretic: Lemons increase the rate of urination in the body, which helps
purify it. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep
your urinary tract healthy.
6. Clears skin: The vitamin C component helps decrease wrinkles and
blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin
clear as well. It can actually be applied directly to scars to help reduce their
appearance.
7. Freshens breath: Not only this, but it can help relieve tooth pain and
gingivitis. The citric acid can erode tooth enamel, so you should monitor this.
I admit, I’m slightly worried about it.
8. Relieves respiratory problems: Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest
infections and halt those pesky coughs. It’s thought to be helpful to people
with asthma and allergies too.
9. Keeps you zen: Vitamin C is one of the first things depleted when you
subject your mind and body to stress. As mentioned previously, lemons are
chock full of vitamin C.
10. Helps kick the coffee habit: After I have a glass of hot lemon water, I
actually don’t crave coffee in the morning. This is weird, I can’t explain it, but
I’ll take it.
The one thing I couldn’t find a concrete answer for is why the water has to be
hot. Having studied Chinese Medicine, I can only assume that cold water
likely provides a shock or stress factor to the body. It takes energy for your
body to process cold and really hot water, believe it or not. I asked
BluePrintCleanse how much lemon the recommend you put in your water.
They suggested just a wedge or 1/8 of a lemon.
Tip: Drink your warm lemon water in coffee cups that has coffee or tea
stains. The lemon water will help remove them.
Tip: Grind the used lemon rinds in your garbage disposal to help deodorize it.
DRINK WATER!!!
The human body is anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. A rule of
thumb, 2/3 of body is consists of water, and it is the main component of human body.
Did you know that your tissues and organs are mainly made up of water? Here is the
%:
•Muscle consists of 75% water
•Brain consists of 90% of water
•Bone consists of 22% of water
•Blood consists of 83% water
The functions of water in human body are vital. The water:
•Transports nutrients and oxygen into cells
•Moisturizes the air in lungs
•Helps with metabolism
•Protects our vital organ
•Helps our organs to absorb nutrients better
•Regulates body temperature
•Detoxifies
•Protects and moisturizes our joints
Every cell in your body needs water from head to toe. That is why it is so important to
drink enough fluid. Take for example, brain consists of 90% of water, if you do not
supply enough water to your body, your brain cannot function well, and you will get
headache or migraine. Hence, next time, if you feel fatigue and headache, it may be
the sign of dehydration
You will be amazed of the benefits of drinking water as follow:
1.Lose weight: Drinking water helps you lose weight because it flushes down the by-
products of fat breakdown. Drinking water reduces hunger, it’s an effective appetite
suppressant so you’ll eat less. Plus, water has zero calories. Here are the further
details on how to achieve fat loss by drinking water.
2.Natural Remedy for Headache: Helps to relieve headache and back pains due to
dehydration. Although many reasons contribute to headache, dehydration is the
common one.
3.Look Younger with Healthier Skin: You’ll look younger when your skin is properly
hydrated. Water helps to replenish skin tissues, moisturizes skin and increases skin
elasticity.
4.Better Productivity at Work: Your brain is mostly made up of water, thus drinking
water helps you think better, be more alert and more concentrated.
5.Better Exercise: Drinking water regulates your body temperature. That means you’ll
feel more energetic when doing exercises. Water also helps to fuel your muscle.
6.Helps in Digestion and Constipation: Drinking water raises your metabolism
because it helps in digestion. Fiber and water goes hand in hand so that you can
have your daily bowel movement.
7.Less Cramps and Sprains: Proper hydration helps keep your joints and muscles
lubricated, so you’ll less likely get cramps and sprains.
8.Less Likely to Get Sick and Feel Healthy: Drinking plenty of water helps fight against
flu and other ailments like kidney stones and heart attack. Water adds with lemon is
used for ailments like respiratory disease, intestinal problems, rheumatism and
arthritis etc. In another words one of the benefits of drinking water is that it can
improve your immune system. Follow this link for further information on how lemon
water can improve your health.
9.Relieves Fatigue: Water is used by the body to help flush out toxins and waste
products from the body. If your body lacks water, your heart, for instance, needs to
work harder to pump out the oxygenated blood to all cells, so are the rest of the vital
organs, your organs will be exhausted and so will you.
10.Good Mood: Your body feels very good and that’s why you feel happy.
11.Reduce the Risk of Cancer: Related to the digestive system, some studies show
that drinking a healthy amount of water may reduce the risks of bladder cancer and
colon cancer. Water dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents in the urine
and shortens the time in which they are in contact with bladder lining.
How to do a colon cleanse
One of the best ways to do colon cleanse… The first step is to clean out the intestines and
colon internally, and by so doing, stimulate the peristaltic action of the internal muscles, which
make up the colon and intestine. (The word peristaltic comes from the Latin word peristalsis,
which means to wrap around and compress)
Peristalsis is a contracting and relaxing of these muscles in the digestive tract, and this moves
food through the digestive system. It also moves urine from the kidneys into the bladder.
Peristalsis is a normal function of the body, but it can become less regular and can lead to you
feeling sluggish, and even dramatically reduce the easy passage of food through the digestive
system).
You do this by taking the Prothinspo Colon Cleanse which has been shown to have a cleansing
effect upon the intestines and colon, this is the first step to colon cleansing in easy to take
capsules they include things which help draw out any build-up of hardened faecal matter,
toxins and decaying or decomposed matter, that hasn’t been passed through the bowels.
The Prothinspo colon cleanser is proven to absorb poisons and other similar harmful
substances in the body. As this formula passes through the intestines and colon, it forms a
slightly jelly like substance which adds bulk to the stool and helps to keep the stool soft and
easy to pass.
Important information about cleansing
It is absolutely vital that you drink enough water, when doing Prothinspo’s colon cleanse or
any kind of colon or intestinal cleansing program. By keeping your water level sufficient, you
ensure that you do not get dehydrated and constipated. If you do not drink enough water,
especially when taking certain herbs and doing a cleanse or any kind of detox program, you
may get bunged up, and sometimes feel constipated.
In fact, one of the biggest causes of constipation in the US and in Europe, is that people don’t
usually drink enough water. If your stools are ever dry and hard to pass, it is often a sign of
constipation.
Bad diet also plays a part, and if you eat certain foods, they are more likely to cause a
constipating effect. There are more articles on the website, advising you about some of the
best foods to eat, and some types of foods to avoid, especially when doing a cleanse. Click
here to read more on what to eat while doing a cleanse, Click here for the Diet index page. If
you place an order today for Prothinspo’s Colon Cleanse we will send you a list of foods to eat
and not to eat while doing this!
How much water do you need to take when cleansing?
You don’t need to go overboard, you simply have to take approximately five to eight glasses of
water a day, and this should be sufficient. In other words, something in the region of one to
two litres per day. The water does not have to be anything special. It doesn’t have to be
distilled or oxygenated or anything like that. It may be best to filter the water, especially if
there are high levels of chlorine in your drinking water. But perhaps the single best advice is
to not drink fizzy water or coke etc.

So now you have a clean colon and you are ready to start on a CLEAN slate so to speak… Your new you
is in sight now.. So lets start on a plan for you to lose as much weight as possible as fast as possible
without gaining it back!!
Beginning a diet to lose weight and improve health is a worthy goal, but it can be a bit overwhelming.
There are bound to be challenges whenever you start something new, especially when it involves
something you do several times each day — like eating and drinking.
Still, as long as you don’t try to change everything at once, you can meet your weight loss goals. Read
on to learn some secrets of the masters — those who have lost weight and, more importantly, kept it
off. After all, what good is losing the extra weight if you gain it right back?
Follow a Healthy Eating Plan
A healthy eating plan (like the WebMD Weight Loss Clinic plan) should include foods you enjoy along
with plenty of healthy, not-too-processed foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, lean
meats, seafood, beans, and nuts. Thanks to their ability to satisfy, these low-calorie foods will actually
help you stick to your diet. The most satisfying foods have lots of fiber (like fruits, vegetables, whole
grains, beans, and nuts) and/or low-fat protein (found in meat, fish, dairy, and soy).
Ideally, you’ll slowly wean yourself off favorite foods that are heavily processed and high in fat or
calories, and replace them with more nutritious options. At any time during this process, feel free to
come up with a new eating plan that increases some healthful foods and decreases others. It’s best for
WLC members to create a new plan at the end of the week. When you do so, the WLC electronic journal
wipes your slate clean.
Don’t worry if you are a vegetarian, or have allergies or intolerances. Your personalized WLC eating
plan may not include all of the recommended food groups, but it will provide adequate nutrients. We
recommend that everyone take a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement to fill in any nutritional gaps.
Take Baby Steps
Change is hard. Making small, gradual changes in your eating patterns is the best way to overhaul your
diet. Some experts suggest making just one change each week, to give you time to get used to the
new behavior. Your ultimate goal is to establish new eating habits that can be sustained for a lifetime.
An excellent way to start is to stock your cupboards and refrigerator with healthy foods, and plan to
prepare healthier meals at home. Pick up a new cookbook or cooking magazine specializing in healthy
cuisine; post a favorite family recipe on the WLC “Recipe Doctor” board for tips on how to lighten it; or
try one of the recipes from the Weight Loss Clinic collection.
Set Realistic Goals
Most people who need to lose weight set lofty goals, dreaming of fitting into clothing sizes that may
not be realistic for them. Yet losing as little as 5% to 10% of your body weight can improve the way you
feel, put a zip in your step, and, most importantly, improve your health. Studies show that losing even
small amounts of weight can improve overall health and, specifically, lower blood pressure, and blood
sugar and cholesterol levels.
Set weight loss goals that are attainable, and keep in mind that the recommended rate of weight loss is
only 1-2 pounds per week. Slow and steady wins this race. It takes time to learn new eating habits that
will last for the rest of your life.
Reward, Don’t Punish
To keep motivation high, reward yourself after reaching minigoals. After all, losing 5 pounds or making
it to the gym five times in a week deserves a pat on the back.
On the other hand, don’t be too hard on yourself when you fall off the wagon — everyone does, sooner
or later. Anticipate that slipups will happen, and when they do, just brush yourself off and get right
back on track. Use your slipup to learn where you are vulnerable, and decide how you will handle the
situation the next time without abandoning your diet. My suggestion is try to do your best 80% of the
time, and relax the rules somewhat the other 20% of the time
Get a Buddy
Support is an essential part of a successful weight loss program. Enlist a family member, find a friend
to join you in your walks or workouts, and get involved in the WLC online community. These people will
become a source of inspiration, support, and encouragement on a regular basis — and especially when
the going gets tough.
Add Exercise
Eating healthfully and cutting calories is only half the formula for successful weight loss. Getting
regular physical activity is the other portion. Exercise is a powerful tool, helping you burn calories and
increase strength, balance, and coordination while reducing stress and improving your overall health.
Troubleshoot
When you overindulge (and you will, because you’re human), don’t beat yourself up, but don’t slough it
off either. Instead, “consider what led you to overeat, and think of ways to ensure it doesn’t happen
again,” says Kirschenbaum. Taking a problem-solving approach reinforces your sense of
accountability, a key factor in losing weight. For example, if you scarfed down a tray of appetizers at the
office party, was it because you skipped lunch? Were you nervous about an upcoming meeting? Once
you think you’ve nailed the cause, formulate a plan for what you’ll do differently the next time you
encounter the same situation.
Weigh In
Daily weighing is a winning weight-loss strategy, according to research from the National Weight
Control Registry, which tracks more than 4,000 people who have lost 30 pounds and kept them off for
at least one year. “It’s essential to know where you are and where you’re going, up or down, pound-
wise,” says Raynor. Minor weight gain (up to five pounds) is acceptable if you’re trying to maintain,
because it could be traced to monthly water retention. “If you’re actively trying to lose weight, gaining
more than that over a week is a red flag that your calorie intake or exercise plan needs some
tweaking,” says Raynor.
Outwit Your Appetite
Eating six small meals a day to help control your appetite doesn’t work for everybody. “Eating that
often increases your exposure to food and ups the chances that you’ll be tempted to overeat,” says
Musante. To control calories, he advises that you have just three meals a day and skip snacks.
Musante also notes that the sight of food can stimulate your appetite, so keep it all out of view. “You
should even wrap leftovers in aluminum foil, not plastic, so you won’t be tempted when you open the
fridge,” he says.
Make a Connection
A good support system may help you make better diet and exercise decisions by boosting
accountability, says Raynor. A recent study found that people who got support through face-to-face
meetings with a counselor or through an Internet-based program regained less weight than
participants who didn’t use either.
Take Eight (Hours)
Shortchanging yourself on sleep lowers the level of the hormone leptin — this can increase your
desire to eat and decrease your ability to burn calories. To lose or maintain weight, there’s an ideal
sleep zone of about eight hours a night, say researchers. According to the National Sleep Foundation,
an estimated 71 percent of Americans get less than that on weekdays. If you have trouble getting to
sleep, develop a ritual that helps you relax.
Limit Tempting High-Fat Foods
For a while, conventional wisdom urged the no-diet approach: Don’t avoid tempting foods like
chocolate ice cream, because avoidance only leads to cravings and results in bingeing. But in some
studies, those who actually followed this method ran into trouble. “The reality is that most people
trying to lose weight can’t give themselves permission to eat problem foods,” says Kirschenbaum.
Temptation just creates difficulties.
Effective weight controllers limit their exposure to these foods by not bringing them into the house.
They also eat other things that are lower in calories and fat but comparable in taste, he says. Choose
replacements such as chocolate sorbet instead of saturated-fat-packed chocolate ice cream.
Target Weekend Calories
A recent study found that on the weekends, Americans tend to eat about 82 calories more per day than
on the weekdays, most of them from fat and alcohol. That doesn’t sound like much, but after a year it
adds up to more than two pounds. Weekends are usually a time to let it all go; but losing weight is a
precise numbers game, so you can’t really afford to loosen the reins too much. Skip the extra margarita
and find other ways to relax.
Order First
When you’re dining out, be the first to place your order. “You can be influenced by other people’s food
decisions,” says Gerard J. Musante, PhD, a clinical psychologist and founder of Structure House, a
residential weight-loss center in Durham, North Carolina. If everyone is ordering the burger and fries,
for example, you’ll be more apt to go with the flow. Set a healthier tone by ordering a salad and the
grilled fish.
MOST IMPORTANT KEEP A FOOD DIARY.. ORDER TODAY AND WE WILL SEND YOU ONE!! Keep a food
diary. Studies show that a journal doesn’t just aid weight loss — it turbo-charges it. When researchers
from Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research followed more than 2,000 dieters who were
encouraged to record meals and snacks, they found that the single best predictor of whether a
participant would drop weight was whether the person kept a food diary. It trumped exercise habits,
age, and body mass index. The number of pounds people lost was directly related to the number of
days they wrote in their log. (It’s no coincidence that Weight Watchers, one of the most successful diet
programs, asks participants to track what they eat.)
Here are five more reasons to start a journal today — even if you swore off diaries in middle school.
1. You’ll get a reality check about how many calories you consume.
Americans typically underestimate their daily intake by about 25 percent, reports nutritionist Carrie Latt
Wiatt, author of Portion Savvy. The situation gets even more complicated when you eat out. In a 2006
study led by Cornell University, 105 diners in fast-food restaurants were asked how many calories were
in their orders. For the small items, almost everyone guessed correctly; for the larger orders, the
diners underestimated the calories by a whopping 38 percent. It may be an issue of perception, says
study author Brian Wansink, Ph.D. The larger the quantity, the harder it is to make an accurate guess —
the same is true for distances and heights.
Even professionals can be tricked by hefty portion sizes. When an NYU researcher asked 200 dietitians
to estimate the calorie count of four popular restaurant dishes, the experts lowballed the number for
each by a whopping 250 to 700 calories.
So stop assuming and start calculating. A good manual, like the classic Calorie King Fat & Carbohydrate
Counter, makes it easy by giving you the calorie counts and fat grams for a huge number of foods. Or
try nutritiondata.com, which also lists the stats for many foods.
2. You’ll cut back on between-meal munching.
Make a mental checklist of what you ate yesterday. Sure, you can probably remember breakfast, lunch,
and dinner — but what about that mini Snickers you snatched from your coworker’s stash? Or that
spoonful of mashed potatoes you took off your husband’s plate?
It’s easy to overlook bites, licks, and tastes (known as “BLTs” to professionals). But that’s a huge
mistake — there are 25 calories, on average, in each mouthful. Translation: Six little bites a day add up
to around 15 extra pounds a year.
“I remember one client who was keeping a diary and couldn’t understand why she wasn’t losing
weight,” says Bethany Thayer, R.D., spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. “We were
discussing the problem when she took out a peppermint. I asked her how many she ate every day, and
she said, ‘A bag.’ They’re nine calories each, but the whole bag is several hundred.”
Writing everything down can also help you make smarter food choices. If you often order a Starbucks
Grande Dulce de Leche Latte, entering the data will bring you face-to-face with the fact that your
beloved drink packs 440 calories, versus 23 calories for the same-size regular coffee with milk.
3. You’ll discover where your diet detours.
“I thought I ate a lot of vegetables — it seemed like I was constantly cooking spinach, broccoli, or
Brussels sprouts,” says Melissa Smith, a 32-year-old mom from Omaha who’s been keeping a food diary
for the past 18 months. “But looking back over a few weeks of my journal, I was surprised to realize
that I was only eating veggies once or twice a week.” So she made salads a regular part of dinner and
noticed that it helped her eat less of her entrée. Her analysis and follow-up action paid off: She’s lost
more than 27 pounds.
A balanced diet is the key to weight loss, says Suzanne Farrell, R.D., who owns Cherry Creek Nutrition
in Denver. “Whole grains, low-fat dairy, green vegetables, orange veggies, beans, nuts — science
shows that we need to eat these regularly to reach a healthy body weight. So when I flip through my
clients’ journals, I always look for what I’m not seeing.”
To find out how many servings of each food group you should be eating, go to mypyramid.gov. This
tool will calculate the correct portions based on your age, gender, height, weight, and level of physical
activity. It’ll also tell you the number of calories you should aim for daily to lose weight.
4. You’ll learn why you pig out.
Experts suggest that, to help break bad habits, you record not only what you eat, but the
circumstances that prompt you to eat. For example, maybe you indulge in more sweets at work
because you sit close to the vending machine. Maybe you have a milkshake several times a week
because you pass Wendy’s on the way home. Or maybe every time you worry about money, you retreat
into the kitchen for chips.
When you begin to notice these patterns, you can figure out ways to change them. If the vending
machine is a constant temptation, stock your desk drawers with fruit and granola bars. If you can’t
resist a fast-food sign, MapQuest a new route to work. If you eat when you’re under pressure, steer
clear of snacks and take a short walk instead (it’s a scientifically proven stress buster).
Another bonus: “When you increase awareness of what’s going into your mouth,” says Thayer, “you’ll
feel fuller sooner than if you were just mindlessly munching.”
5. You’ll see real results — quickly.
Your food diary can be as revealing as the one you kept in fifth grade. For example, to get a glimpse
into how much you’ve improved your diet, compare the entries in week one (Twinkie-filled) to week
four or five (ideally, veggie-filled). You can also discover which decisions translated into pounds lost
— for instance, that week you had fish for dinner twice might’ve helped you lose weight.
Food journals also let you give yourself credit where credit is due (personally, I reward myself with a
gold star each day I resist eating candy). And that positive reinforcement is essential for shedding
pounds.
How to Write Off Pounds: A Cheat Sheet to Get Your Food Diary Started
Choose Your Medium
If you’re using pen and paper, buy a regular spiral notebook. Or go for a pre-organized book like the
DietMinder. Computer addicts should check out online journals, such as myfooddiary.com ($9 per
month) and nutrihand.com (free for a basic plan; $10 per month for extras). If you can’t live without your
PDA, visit weightbydate.com and download the software (starting at $19).
Start Recording
The crucial info to write down: the time you ate, what you ate, and how much you ate. Make a habit of
jotting notes right after you eat. “If you wait until the end of the day, it’s too easy to leave things out,”
warns Suzanne Farrell, R.D. Tracking your diet online? Remember to take paper with you to
restaurants, so you can write down every ingredient and calculate its nutritional content afterward.
You may also want to invest in measuring cups — they’ll help you learn what a one-and-a-half-cup
portion looks like (it’s a lot less than you think) — as well as a calorie-counter book and a calculator.
Armed with these tools, you can track your calories like a nutritionist would.
Get Personal
Customize your diary so it reflects the info that’s most useful to you. For example, if you’re someone
who eats whenever food is in front of you, create columns in your journal to rate how hungry you were
before and afterward. If you snack your way through hard days, add a column to describe how you were
feeling when you ate. Trying to figure out when you’re most drawn to junk food? Record where you
were when you indulged and what was going on at the time. Also, if you’re trying to break a specific
habit, like scarfing down ice cream at night, create a column for that, so you can give yourself a star for
each day you resist the urge.
Be Honest
Include every single bite, lick, and taste (anything larger than a crumb counts). And don’t forget to
keep track of your sips. Even the most diligent diarists often forget to include the glass of white wine
they had at dinner (120 calories) and their 3 p.m. can of Coke (155 calories).
Find Your Favorites
Counting calories is easier for creatures of habit: If you have a bowl of cereal for breakfast almost
every morning or a turkey sandwich three times a week, you won’t have to look up the number each
time.
Keep Your Diary Close
“I’m forgetful, so I always need to put the journal where I can see it — on my kitchen table, on my desk
at work. I carry it a lot in my hand, too, as a reminder,” says Melissa Smith, 32, of Omaha, who lost 25
pounds keeping a food diary.
You can also try this trick from Maryellen Mealey, 42, of Chicago, who lost big (188 pounds) keeping a
journal: “I made a deal with myself that I wouldn’t eat anything unless I wrote it down first. It’s
obsessive, but I’m a mindless snacker and putting everything in the book really helped me be more
conscious,” she says.
Examine the Evidence
No matter how diligent you are, a food log won’t help in the behavior-changing department if you don’t
analyze it. At night, sit down and calculate how many calories you consumed. Tally up what food groups
you’re eating, and make adjustments. (A big plus of online tools is that they do a lot of the analysis for
you, totaling everything with a click of a button and often giving you charts to show what you can
improve.)
You may also want to consult a registered dietitian. A professional may see things in your diary that you
don’t (cost: usually $50 to $300 for an initial consultation). A two-year study from Fred Hutchinson
Cancer Research Center in Seattle showed that participants who consulted a dietitian had better
success keeping off weight than those who followed their usual diet.

serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in mood, sleep and appetite control.
Advantra-Z® 6% Synephrine:
Made from the extract of citrus aurantium, aka “Bitter Orange”. Traditionally, the Chinese used bitter
orange for chest and stomach ailments, but it has been shown to have amazing weight-loss
attributes and is a safe alternative to Ephedra. Recently it was discovered that Synephrine had
Ephedra-like results when mixed with DiCaffeine Malate, which is also found in this supplement.
Fucoxanthin-Study Results
The clinical research also indicated that the metabolic boost from taking fucoxanthin did not
stimulate the central nervous system, meaning it didn´t cause the jitters or lost sleep like caffeine,
nicotine, or thyroid hormones. Dr. Ramazanov reported that the fucoxanthin was safe with no side
effects, and it even provided other health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health,
reduction of inflammation (a major cause of heart disease), healthy cholesterol and triglyceride
levels, improvements in blood pressure levels, and healthy liver function. As a carotenoid,
fucoxanthin was a powerful antioxidant that protected cells from free-radical damage
1,3-Dimethylamylamine:
A derivative of geranium oil which resembles the body’s own chemical messenger, epinephrine
(adrenaline). Similar to adrenaline, 1,3 Dimethylamylamine exihibits a powerful CNS stimulanting
ability for increased energy, mental clarity and physical performance. 1,3-Dimethylamylamine works
through a similar pathway as ephedrine, causing an increase in cAMP (the chemical messenger that
triggers fat release and provides potent appetite suppression and thermogenic action). An effective
dose of geranamine is about 25 mg (miligrams) taken 1-3 times a day.
